It is the neighbouring municipality to the north, right up against Bessa. Intermares is a wave beach — surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing all year along the Mar do Macaco stretch — and also a turtle nesting area. For still water, Ponta de Campina is two kilometres away. Entry prices are lower than on the capital's seafront, and demand is more concentrated in summer.

Intermares has waves; Ponta de Campina, two kilometres north, has still water. Those travelling with a small child tend to sleep in Intermares and spend the day at Ponta de Campina.
Cabedelo is a municipality in its own right, not a João Pessoa district: it begins where Bessa ends, to the north. Intermares is the city's most populous district, with 9,280 residents in the 2022 census, and became a district in the 1980s — the current density dates from 2008 onwards.
This is a wave beach. The Mar do Macaco stretch has surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing all year, and the sand receives nesting sea turtles. Anyone wanting still water goes to Ponta de Campina, two kilometres north, or on to Camboinha.
