Como chegar à Barra de Gramame
It is about 22 kilometres from the João Pessoa seafront, a little over half an hour by car. The final stretch is the important detail: the access track is dirt, steep and stony.
That is why a good share of trips there are made by buggy. An ordinary car can manage it, but take it slowly and avoid days of heavy rain.
Rio de um lado, mar do outro
The river forms a strip of shallow, still water beside the sand, ideal for anyone who would rather avoid the surf. The cliffs behind complete the scene.
On the river you often see kayaks and stand-up paddleboards — the calm water suits beginners.
Estrutura: o que esperar
The facilities are simple and honest: a few kiosks along the shore and a small market of clothes and crafts. This is not a beach-club beach — for that, look to Tabatinga, in Conde.
O pôr do sol
Barra de Gramame has one of the finest sunsets in the region. The late-afternoon light hits the meeting of the two waters and changes the colour of the whole river — it is worth planning the visit for the end of the day.
