O Maior São João do Mundo
Campina Grande, in Paraíba's Agreste region, hosts what is recognised as the world's largest São João festival. It has been on Brazil's official tourism calendar since 1987 and now runs for more than a month, spanning June and reaching into late May and early July.
The epicentre is Parque do Povo, a site built in the 1980s and enlarged in 2024 to nearly 40,000 square metres. In recent editions the festival has drawn more than 3.5 million people.

In June, accommodation in Campina Grande becomes scarce and expensive — that is the nature of a city whose population multiplies in a few weeks.
Staying on the coast and driving up for the festival solves both ends: beach in the morning, an apartment with a kitchen and room to really rest, and availability even when Campina is already full.

O que saber antes
June is high season on both sides: coast and Agreste. Those who book ahead get to choose; those who leave it late pay more and take what is left.
It is also worth checking the official programme before fixing dates — the busiest days tend to cluster around the nights of 23 and 24 June.
