Paraíba Craft Market (Mercado de Artesanato Paraibano)
In Tambaú, a few blocks from the beach, the Market brings together more than a hundred craft shops from all over the state under one roof. It is the place to compare prices and see everything before deciding.
You will find lace, embroidery, hammocks, ceramics, leather, woodwork, beachwear, cashew nuts, sweets and cachaça. Since it is indoors, it also works well on a rainy day.
Tambaú Feirinha
On the Tambaú seafront, the Feirinha opens in the late afternoon and runs into the night. It mixes handicrafts, beachwear and food — tapioca, corn on the cob, skewers — with the sea right beside it.
It is less a place for big shopping and more of an outing: good for anyone staying on the seafront who wants a walk after the beach.
What is worth taking home
- Renascença lace — Paraíba's most famous craft, handmade in the Cariri region.
- Coloured cotton — cotton that grows naturally in shades of brown, beige and green, farmed in the state and turned into clothing and home décor.
- Woven hammocks and throws.
- Ceramics and clay pieces.
- Leather — sandals, bags and hats inspired by the sertão.
- Cachaça from Paraíba's Brejo region, one of the most traditional producing areas in the country.
- Cashew nuts, doce de leite, cashew-fruit preserve and rapadura (raw cane sugar).
Tips for shopping well
Walk the whole Market before buying: the same piece shows up in several shops at different prices. Ask for a receipt on larger purchases and, if you are taking bottles or ceramics on a plane, ask for sturdy packaging.
If you are staying in Tambaú or Manaíra, the Market and the Feirinha are a walk or a short ride-hailing trip away.
