According to INMET's climate normals (1991–2020), December in João Pessoa has an average high of 30.9 °C and low of 25.2 °C, around 37 mm of rain over 5 days and 259 hours of sunshine.
Full summer: sun almost every day, more than 250 hours in the month, little rain and highs close to 31 °C.
What to do in December
- Christmas lights downtown: Ponto de Cem Réis and Parque da Lagoa.
- New Year's Eve on the seafront, with the beach full of people in white.
- The first sunrise of the year at Ponta do Seixas.
- Beach and boat trips in the first fortnight, before the crowds.
Events and crowds
The first fortnight is still quiet. From the 15th the city fills up, and New Year's Eve is the absolute peak of the year: highest rates, longer minimum stays and payment in advance. The countdown happens on the seafront, centred on the Tambaú–Cabo Branco stretch.
Is December a good time to go?
Worth it — but it is two months in one. The first fortnight has summer weather at reasonable prices; the second is high season. For New Year's Eve, those who look in July get to choose; those who look in November get what is left.
