What the weather is like in January
According to INMET's climate normals (1991–2020), January in João Pessoa has an average high of 30.9 °C and low of 25.1 °C, around 86 mm of rain over 9 days and 241 hours of sunshine.
This is proper summer: sun almost every day, warm sea and long days. When rain comes, it is a quick shower in the late afternoon.
What to do in January
- Beach early in the morning, before 10 am, while there is still room on the sand.
- A boat trip to Picãozinho or Areia Vermelha, timed by the tide table.
- Sunset at Praia do Jacaré, with Ravel's Boléro on the saxophone.
- The south coast — Coqueirinho, Tambaba, Carapibus — on a weekday, to dodge the crowds.

Events and crowds
It is the busiest month of the year. School holidays bring families from all over Brazil, the seafront stays busy until late and good restaurants need booking. Depending on when Carnival falls, the Folia de Rua — João Pessoa's pre-Carnival — starts warming up at the end of the month.
