What the weather is like in April
According to INMET's climate normals (1991–2020), April in João Pessoa has an average high of 30.8 °C and low of 24.1 °C, around 236 mm of rain over 16 days and 201 hours of sunshine.
The rainy season begins. Monthly rainfall passes 230 mm, but it usually comes as short, heavy showers, often early in the morning or late in the afternoon, with sun in between.
What to do in April
- The historic centre: São Francisco church, the Basilica and old houses, none of which depend on the weather.
- The crafts market and regional restaurants on cloudy days.
- Beach in the sunny spells — with a beach shack nearby.

Events and crowds
Holy Week usually falls in April, with processions in the historic centre and a long weekend — the only days of the month when the city fills up. Tiradentes Day, on 21 April, can also make a long weekend. Otherwise it is low season: a quiet city and low rates.
Is April a good time to go?
Worth it if you want the city, culture and food at low prices — and are happy to swap a beach day for something else. For a flexible beach holiday, September to November is a better bet.
